COVID-19 has affected millions of people in this world. The pandemic has changed every aspect of our life recently. Fortunately, the advancement in technology has helped us connect with our loved ones virtually and maintain social connections.

Video Visit Benefits

There is an increased scrutiny in the hospital/clinic entrance to isolate COVID-19 patients which may increase the delay at check-ins. There are also some groups of patients who might not want to make in-person doctor visits for non-emergency appointments to prevent contracting COVID-19, even though chances of catching COVID-19 might be very small. Fortunately for Kaiser Permanente patients the Video Visit feature in the KP Mobile app can help them connect with their doctor virtually from the comfort of their living space. During a video visit providers can also directly observe the patient making it easier for them to observe clinically relevant information, including facial expressions, which is more beneficial than relying solely on patient self-reporting during a phone conversation. Patients also benefit by seeing the provider’s facial expressions which help them connect with each other.

Video Visit Now

Video Visit feature has been in the KP Mobile app for a while, before the COVID-19 pandemic started. Patients can create future video visit schedules by themselves from the app or by calling the provider. The ‘Video Visit Now’ feature in the KP Mobile app is now live, which allows patients to schedule and meet with a doctor immediately, provided there is an availability. The Video Visit Now feature was included with KP Mobile 4.34 and is only available in the Mid-Atlantic States region for the initial release.
